The Tipping Point – Weekend of July 25, 26, and 27

July 25, 2025 by Eliot Duhan Leave a Comment

It’s just about equal distance to Labor Day as it is from

Memorial Day, more or less so make sure you’re getting it done, whatever it is.

Friday Night as almost always free music at the Foodery on Ridge with Quidnunk and Friends. https://roxyunk.org/event/fridays-at-the-foodery-quidnunk-and-friends/2025-07-25/

Saturday, as always, the Pretzel Park Farmers Market from10 to 2. Bring shopping bags take home treats. http://www.friendsofpretzelpark.org/

Gorgas Park hosts a Tribute to Our Veterans, 10 am. The weather should be a little nicer. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BAdhPdLog/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Sunday is Jazz Night at the Dawson Street Pub. That sounds like a great way to cap the weekend. http://www.dawsonstreetpub.com/

The Fallser hosts their open mic which also sounds like a great way to round out the weekend. https://thefallserclub.com/event/open-mic-night-with-jeff-alexander/

Hey RoxYunk! Welcome to the Weekend!

July 18, 2025 by Eliot Duhan Leave a Comment

Friday night, stop by the Ridge Ave. Foodery at 7pm for free music with Quidnunk and Friends. If you’re a pedal steel player (or you know one), we want you bad. This is a nice cozy scene, the very spirit of RoxYunk

Saturday  brings a Pretty Great Sidewalk Sale, at 455 Krams Ave 10 am ’til stuff is gone. Moving sale! All must go!things priced to sell! https://roxyunk.org/event/pretty-damn-great-sidewalk-sale/

As always, the Pretzel Park Farmers Market from 10 – 2, all the usual great stuff and music this week by Miss Nay and Mr. Maas – funky, soulful acoustic versions of classic rock, R&B, & pop.

Later that same day, Pretzel Park Concerts continue with Melvin McKnight aka Blaqmel and His Band. Bring a blanket and prepare to be funkified. 6pm, https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BzHwyZwY5/

Saturday evening at 8, the Ministry of Bad Ideas will be making dubious claims at Fat Lady Brewing on Main St. With Zen Fuzz and Future Antiques. https://www.instagram.com/p/DLkNUYKO04C/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MXNmYjVtd2xpZzBmYg==

Sunday, you’re on your own. The Schist Creek Stompers Jug Band will be rehearsing to prep for our Gorgas Park Show on July 30 for Parks On Tap. If you’re jonesin’ for a jug band fix, send me a message and you can stop by.

As always, have a look at https://roxyunk.org/ for your local event info and come on and join the party at RoxYunk DIscord. We promise not to complain about parking. https://discord.gg/qbgHXvRm

If a band plays in Center City, does it warrant a blog post in RoxYunk? In this case, yes. Rae the Band at the Twisted Tail, Saturday, 8pm – 12pm

July 12, 2025 by Eliot Duhan 1 Comment

I’ll spare you the full story of wandering into a broadway dive bar and being astounded at the musicality of this band stuffed into a booth by the window (putting circus contortionists to shame) and just urge you most strongly to take the 9 bus to 4th and walnut and stroll down to Headhouse. They’re really good. Rae The Band.

Regular RoxYunk Centric programming will resume with the next post.

See you there!

DC 33 On Strike

July 1, 2025 by Eliot Duhan Leave a Comment

The city’s biggest union is on strike. Many city services will slow or halt.

It’s important to remember this is not a decision taken lightly by the union. The strike is a result of two sides failing to come to an agreement.

In the meantime, here’s a pretty good summary of what to know about city services during this event. https://whyy.org/articles/philadelphia-largest-union-first-strike-40-years/

Support your neighbors, support workers.
