Twisted Ginger Monday Night Trivia – If you haven’t, you should.

April 6, 2026 by Eliot Duhan Leave a Comment

In what is so amazing and pleasant that it verges on parody of the new urbanist dreamscape, Brewtenant Dan’s Monday Night Trivia is a gem, a paragon, an apotheosis!

And yes yes, I tend to hyperbolize but it’s a really good scene. Dan’s questions and MC schtick are smart, funny, simultaneously hubristic and self effacing.

And the pizza? To die for.

And the beer? Worth coming back to life for after pizza induced mortaility. Made in RoxYunk.

Check out the gallery of labels – weddings, birth announcements, porchfest. A catalogue of life on a slope.

Sadly, i probably will not make it this week. But you should!

Tell Dan and Josh (behind the bar) that they rock and are making RoxYunk a better place, not that it wasn’t amazing to begin with.

What’s with “RoxYunk”? Why are you trying to make that a thing?

March 31, 2026 by Eliot Duhan Leave a Comment

We live in a city. We live in an area of that city between the Schuylkill and the Wissahickon. That area is arbitrarily broken up into smaller neighborhoods, say Roxborough, Manayunk, Shawmont, and Andorra.

But wait! What about Wissahickon? Or Germany Hill? Or LIttle Cresson?

When I arrived at Krams and Boone in the late 20th century, the old timers called this outcropping of rock “Sunnyside” or “Tobinville.” I have a recollection one of them called it Hatshop Hill though no one was ever able to point to an eponymous hat shop.

All names are made up, all boundaries (and yes, even boundaries that follow rivers and mountains) are human made.

Where is the dividing line between Manayunk and Roxborough? Manayunk Ave? Why then does the 27/28 zip code divide start on Silverwood Street?

“RoxYunk” doesn’t erase old names or replace them. Use it if you want or not.

For me, its a reminder that we are all neighbors clinging to a steep slope north west of City Hall. Both sides of Ridge, both sides of Fountain, Both sides of Shurs, both sides of Manayunk Ave.

The way it rolls off the tongue is pleasing, it has both of Mel Brooks’ ‘funny’ letters, it sounds gravelly when i hear it. So, yeah, RoxYunk.

Fertile ground for song lyrics as well. Roll your own and YMMV.

Life comes at you fast – Come see some poetry – John S Hall and Rodney Anonymous this Saturday, March 28 at Harmonie Hall

March 23, 2026 by Eliot Duhan Leave a Comment

Life is what happens while you’re making plans to do other things.

Now is the time of year for hope, for seeing green shoots rising from the dark earth.

So trite! So true!

Putting aside philosophy, two of the godfathers of punk will be howling words of joy and pain into the warm night air this coming Saturday.

Saturday Night, at the glorious Harmonie Hall, your ears and brain will be dazzled.

Get your tickets now. It might sell out. https://harmoniehall.space/event/john-s-hall-heinrich/

I’m posting this here to give RoxYunk a chance before yelling it all around the city.
