Perhaps you’re new to Philadelphia? Perhaps you’re a long time resident who has never been to a neighborhood civic meeting? Perhaps you’re trying to make connections in your neighborhood and wondering how things get done? Your local Registered Community Organization (“RCO” but also called a “Civic”) is a great place to start. Most RCOs have monthly meetings, always public, where issues ranging from zoning variance review to community events to quality of life issues are discussed.
What RCOs do:
Provide a forum for community input into the zoning variance process
Help residents find resources to address City government issues
What RCOs DONT do:
Serve as a general purpose dumping ground for complaints about parking or the lack thereof
Answer 911 calls
Philly’s Open Map is a good resource for figuring out which RCO is yours.
Here are your RoxYunk Area RCOs. If you’ve never been to an RCO meeting, take an evening and go! You’ll probably learn something about the neighborhood you don’t knowand meet people you haven’t met yet.
