DESCRIPTION:The Manayunk Stairs are America’s first public transit system. People powered\, they were created by  mill workers to create a direct path from their rowhomes on the hill to  factories along Main Street\, the Canal\, and the Schuylkill\, \nJoin us for an epic journey through time and space as we recount the history of the neighborhood\, highlight the topography\, and recount our memories of the stairs. \nMeet at 9:30 ish at the Pretzel Park Farmers Market by the playground (but stay out of the way of Market set up because Dave gets grouchy). We walk at 10. It’s about 5 miles and 3 hours. Come for as much of it as you want. Dress for the weather. \nSince we end up at the Pretzel Park Farmer’s Marker\, bring a few bucks along to stock up on Melvin’s amazing produce and the other weekly delights.
