DESCRIPTION:The Dan May Band \nDan May is one of a rare breed of singer-songwriters that has made the successful transition from \nclassical to popular music. After a 12-year career that saw him singing roles with opera \ncompanies across the US and Canada\, he began writing and performing his own songs in 2005\, \nwhich has resulted in seven critically-acclaimed albums\, including “Dying Breed\,” which made \nthe The Philadelphia Inquirer’s list of “Top Ten Albums of the Year.” \nMay’s music has appeared on radio\, in television and film\, as well as orchestral performances \nand his warm baritone and folk-pop songs with their rootsy embellishments that “brim with \nhooks and heart as well as intelligence and grace” have been embraced by live audiences from \ncoast to coast. \nReferred to as a “consummate storyteller\, May has also authored two books\, including \n“Adventures in Grocery Shopping\,” which was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer list of “Best \nBooks of 2016.” Dan’s live shows now include readings from both books in addition to singing \nsongs off of his seven albums. See map for details.\nBathrooms: None \nWould you like to be part of keeping Wissahickon Valley Park beautiful and sustainable? Then join longtime Wissahickon steward David Bower and his dedicated team of Crew Leaders and Trail Ambassadors for a variety of stewardship tasks! \nAll are welcome to attend\, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level\, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said\, this service day may include the following activities: \n• Trail work: using long-handled tools for scraping\, digging\, tamping\, and cutting; moving heavy objects\n• Planting site maintenance: using long handled tools for cutting\, scraping\, and digging\n• Invasive plant removal: bending over\, using long handled tools for cutting vines\n• Litter clean-up \nWe provide gloves\, tools\, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants\, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email one business day before the event. If you are hoping to bring a group of 5 or more people\, please reach out to us first. \nRegistration is required for all volunteer service days so that participants can be informed of emergency cancellations.
