By age 14 Carla was voted Poet Laureate of Philadelphia. In 2018\, Carla released her first single\, “Pretty Girl Magic”\, which was featured in “For Colored Girls” stage play (Directed by Frankie Darcell). \nIn June of 2022\, Carla released her music compilation titled “She Is”\, which received local and national acclaim. \nIn July 2022\, Carla received a citation from the City of Philadelphia for Excellence in Music for her contribution to the culture of the arts in Philadelphia. Carla was invited to join the 2023 new member class for the National Recording Academy (Grammys) as a voting member. \nIn 2023\, Carla created “Voices of Philly Soul” ladies edition concert\, celebrating Women’s History Month. \nIn 2024 Carla expanded “Voices of Philly Soul”\, to include a Women’s Edition Comedy Show (Punch Line Philly)\, a Free Mental Health Panel (Ensemble Arts Philly\, Kimmel Center Building – Hamilton Garden)\, and a Ladies Edition Concert (World Cafe Live – Main Hall). \nCarla released her newest EP project\, January 2024\, titled “Soulsthetic” (R&B). DESCRIPTION:WPA in the Wissahickon: Wonderful Park Assets or Worrisome Park Additions – Part I\nMeeting at Northwestern Avenue and Forbidden Drive (see map here)\n*This hike was initially scheduled for February 22. If you were signed up already\, you do not need to register again.* \nEver walk past a structure in the Wissahickon and observe a cornerstone with the initials WPA and a date? WPA is short for the Works Progress Administration\, a federal New Deal program during the Great Depression that helped provide jobs for unemployed workers. Fairmount Park and the Wissahickon Valley were sites for multiple WPA projects and some controversy. \nJoin us for a loop walk that includes stops at several structures built by WPA workers. We’ll share highlights\, some history about the buildings\, and the controversy about the scope of work in the Wissahickon. This hike is part one of a series and will focus on the northern section of the park. The route includes some steep and rocky ascents and descents and is about 5 miles long. Children 12 years of age and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult; no dogs except for service animals\, please. \nDistance: 5 miles \nDifficulty Level: Difficult (many inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces) \nAudience: Ages 12+ \nParking: There should be plenty of parking in the nearby Northwestern Ave Parking Area. \nRestrooms: There will not be bathrooms available for use during our hike. \nRegistration is required for all events so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. \nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks.
