DC 33 On Strike

July 1, 2025 by Eliot Duhan Leave a Comment

The city’s biggest union is on strike. Many city services will slow or halt.

It’s important to remember this is not a decision taken lightly by the union. The strike is a result of two sides failing to come to an agreement.

In the meantime, here’s a pretty good summary of what to know about city services during this event. https://whyy.org/articles/philadelphia-largest-union-first-strike-40-years/

“Town Crier Thursday Night, Come and Find Me, June 26” or “Does Anyone Read This?”

June 26, 2025 by Eliot Duhan Leave a Comment

So, as it says on the RoxYunk summer poster, Thursday nights are “Come and Find Me”. I’ll be out there somewhere, doing something. If you find me, I’ll read you a poem or tell your fortune or sing a song with you. Maybe a beer or summat.

Going forward, this will probably be a puzzle or a scavenger hunt or some other thing but tonight, just come find me at the Foodery at 7:30 ish.

The Canal Is Open, At Long Last – Thursday, 11 am, Venice Island. Come and see!

June 25, 2025 by Eliot Duhan Leave a Comment

For years, you see the Canal, you think to yourself “Dang, if water was flowing through it, wouldn’t that be nice”

and you’d have been right! The historic old waterway has been static for so many years and now, it is in motion one more time.

Maybe you’ve noticed the water swirling much more quickly downstream than before. Perhaps a duck struggling to make it’s way upstream? And yes! The water is nicer and will be nicer as time flows by.

Thursday morning, 11 am, Philadelphia Water Department’s efforts will be officially acknowledged at Venice Island Performing Arts Center. Come on down,

Saturday Evening, Deb Callahan rocks out in Pretzel Park. http://www.friendsofpretzelpark.org/

At the The Fallser Club, The Edge Hill Rounders and the River Bones Band, (potential rivals to the Schist Creek Stompers) will bring you to the good place. Such good sounds and such a sweet venue. https://thefallserclub.com/event/edge-hill-rounders-and-river-bones/

It’s not in our neck of the woods but the Clark Park Music and Arts Festival is Saturday and it’s never less than fantastic. Consider heading down. https://clarkparkfest.wordpress.com/

I’m sleeping in Sunday but let me know if something’s going on.

As always, the RuxYunkFunCo Discord is there for you if you’re there for it. https://discord.gg/jMUPh6zu

And check out https://roxyunk.org/ for upcoming events.

It’s going to be a hot week. Stay hydrated, check in on your neighbors to make sure they’re ok and remember what the guy in Repo Man said “Only an a**hole gets heat stroke over a car.”
